What do you teach? Computer science
How long have you used POGIL? Since 2009
What was your "AHA" POGIL moment? First, in a 2009 1-day workshop at ASEE with Eliot Douglas, realizing how EIA would change how students thought about writing loops in programs. Second, trying draft POGIL-ish activities with students and seeing their engagement & understanding.
What do you wish you had known when you first started using POGIL? How many really great, hard-working, generous people are in the POGIL community.
What would you like to see The POGIL Project accomplish in the next 20 years? A few off the top of my head: - Continue to expand "outward" from US college chemistry to more (non-STEM) disciplines, levels (K-8, non-traditional students, professional training), contexts (community colleges, MSIs, HBCUs, international), etc. - Do more to support typical/average instructors to adopt evidence-based practices: workshops that introduce a few practices at a time, rather than all-POGIL at once; more classroom-ready materials, more supporting tools, more mentoring & learning communities, etc. - Develop succession planning and long-term sustainability.
What does the POGIL community mean to you? My professional tribe.
